Description

In this workshop, we explore different types of data that you can use to optimize your course design and delivery. First, we will discuss “learning analytics”, which has been identified by Educause as one of the six new technologies expected to have a significant impact on postsecondary teaching and learning. We will discuss what learning analytics are, what type of data you have access to as a course instructor (e.g., Quercus analytics), and, importantly, how you can use this data to support student learning. The second type of “data” you have access to is feedback. We discuss the major types of feedback, strategies for obtaining such feedback, and best practices for using that feedback to inform your teaching. We finish the workshop with a discussion on the ethical use of collected data, focusing on the importance of privacy and confidentiality.
