How do you know if your students are learning what you intended them to learn? Effective assessment design is key to successful and meaningful student learning. Assessments often shape what students interpret to be the important learning objectives for a course. But assessments can also shape attitudes, motivate, inspire, question assumptions and so much more. They can be formal or informal, high- or low-stakes, anonymous or public, individual or collective, short or span the entire course. This workshop will explore effective strategies for the design and grading of a range of creative and traditional low- and high-stakes assessments.
