This discussion-driven workshop will provide a supportive atmosphere in which participants can identify, describe, discuss, and troubleshoot challenges they anticipate or have encountered as teaching assistants at the University of Toronto.
Through a series of scenarios, facilitators will engage participants to share some of the common challenges that graduate teachers confront in their intersecting roles as students and teaching assistants. We will devote the session to articulating and troubleshooting challenges that participants themselves have experienced. Members of this workshop are encouraged to take this opportunity to reflect on recent teaching appointments and work with fellow TAs to devise actionable strategies for addressing key challenges and difficulties in future teaching contracts.
This is the second of two workshops on “Troubleshooting TA Challenges.” Participants are encouraged (but not required) to attend both workshops. The first is more content-focused; the second will provide sustained opportunity to share personal teaching challenges and troubleshoot scenarios that participants and their colleagues have encountered.
