Description

This workshop will engage the fundamentals of oral presentation and lecturing in various classroom settings. Participants will examine the difference between “writing for the eye’ versus “writing for the ear” in their teaching. Through a combination of discussions and group activities this session will:

  • Learn principles for outlining and organization lectures and oral presentation.
  • Discuss practices for adapting research and published work to lecture and other classroom contexts.
  • Plan for student interaction and “interruptions” within lecture design.
  • Create long term plans to develop oral presentation and lecturing skills as an ongoing part of pedagogical development.

By the end of this workshop participants will be able to adapt a written piece from their research or publication for an oral presentation or lecture and trouble shoot issues with oral presentation and public speaking.
