Description

In the classroom, TAs can foster vital skills such as communication, interpersonal skills, teamwork, writing and independent thinking. However, students are often unaware of the value of such transferable skills, or even of the fact that they are among the learning outcomes of a class. As such, it is important for TAs to identify and outline the specific skills being honed in any given class or experience. Given the overwhelming evidence for the value of these skills, this workshop aims to support the professional goals of TAs and their students by outlining strategies to identify, acquire and develop transferable skills.
By the end of the session attendees will learn how to:
1. Identify and articulate the transferable skills embedded in any given class or experience.
2. Teach transferable skills in their classes.
3. Empower their students toward reflective practices and career planning.
4. Demystify networking and encourage relationship-building.
