Description

Social media has become a permanent feature of many students’ lives outside of the classroom. Integrated into higher education, social media tools can offer new forms of inquiry and discussion, communication, collaboration, knowledge creation, and forms of feedback. This workshop will explore four types of social media tools and effective strategies to incorporate them into your teaching: Twitter, blogging tools, video creation (lecture capture, screencasting, YouTube), and Instagram/Pinterest. Twitter, for example, can be used to generate discussion, share resources, get students to connect with each other, and serve as a way to elicit feedback from students. We will examine considerations around the use of social media, explore best practices for the platforms and consider effective ways to integrate social media into teaching.
