TAing for first and second year classes can often feel overwhelming. There is usually a wide range of materials to cover, and at times it might seem that students lack the learning tools they need to grasp the new material. TA’s might also feel they lack the necessary teaching tools to help students through this. By combining course content with skills-based learning techniques, TAs can help their students tackle complex and confusing subject matter by making things simple and approachable. Through this TAs are not simplifying the content; instead, they are helping their students develop the learning skills they need to succeed. In this workshop, TAs will explore the value of teaching transferable skills through course content and also how to integrate skills-based learning activities into their classroom.
