Description

TAing for first and second year classes can often feel overwhelming.  There is usually a wide range of materials to cover and at times it might seem that students lack the learning tools they need to grasp the new material. By combining content with skills-based learning techniques, TAs can help their students tackle complex and confusing subject matter by making things simple and approachable.  Through this we are not simplifying the content; instead, we are helping our students to develop the learning skills they need to succeed.

In this workshop, TAs will explore the ways in which they can use course content to help their students develop the skills and tools they need to tackle university-level coursework.  TAs will: learn how to identify what skills students may be lacking; explore ways in which they can help all students develop these skills via skills-based learning activities; and brainstorm ways in which skills-based learning can help students connect course content to broader, transferable skills.
