Over the last couple of decades, the pressure to improve the quality of teaching has been transforming Higher Education in North America. One of the key initiatives has been the emergence of individuals holding a full-time appointment focused on teaching. Indeed, teaching-stream faculty (TSF) – professors whose main responsibilities are teaching and teaching-focused research (i.e., Scholarship of Teaching and Learning) – have emerged everywhere, including research-intensive institutions. Many academics now identify teaching roles as the best route for their career trajectory. This roundtable will introduce you to five teaching-stream appointees at the University of Toronto. They will share their stories about career paths, working in teaching roles, research and service commitments, and much more.
