“Where did I lose marks?” “Why did you give me this grade?” “Can you explain this grading rubric?” “Can’t you just increase my grade by a few marks?” These are just some of the questions you often field from students when they receive grades and feedback on their tests, exams, and assignments. Grading remains an important tool for giving feedback on students’ work and is necessary for continued learning, but it can be time-consuming and stressful. In this workshop, we will explore strategies on how to grade consistently and efficiently, as well as how to provide meaningful feedback on students’ work. Topics covered will include types of feedback, consistent and effective feedback, talking to students about grades, troubleshooting grading disputes, communication and marking rubric design.
