Description

This session has been cancelled and will be rescheduled shortly.

In this 2-part (4 hour) workshop, participants will build towards a complex understanding of equity terminology and principles. We will start by first working through various scenarios around how equity issues arise in our classrooms and collaboratively generate strategies that work to address them. Then, we will ask participants to reflect on their own practices, learn from others, and build skills for refining interventions through course and tutorial design and facilitation methods. By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to: 1) identify equity issues on campus and in their classrooms (including racism, settler colonialism, ableism/saneism, sexism, heterosexism, transphobia, and other historic, systemic forms of oppression, understood as co-constituent); 2) analyze their own teaching practices/strategies in the context of equity issues; 3) apply the equity-oriented strategies they have developed to their classrooms.

There will be a 30 minute break between part 1 and part 2. Participants must attend both parts of this workshop. This session is worth two credits towards the certificate programs.
