In December 2015, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) of Canada released its Final Report, which included 94 “Calls to Action” for federal, provincial, territorial and Aboriginal government agencies, institutions, and peoples alike. At the University of Toronto it is now common to land acknowledgements and urges to “Indigenize” and “decolonize” throughout the humanities, social sciences, and STEM fields. In their December 2016 response to the TRC, the University of Toronto’s TRC Steering Committee calls on U of T researchers to acknowledge their role in ongoing legacies of colonialism. In this workshop, TAs/CIs will acknowledge their role in dominant settler culture through the development and creation of decolonial teaching resources and strategies. In this workshop, we will learn how to decolonize our syllabi. We welcome Indigenous and non-Indigenous TAs/CIs.
