Buzzwords abound in the world of higher education: we hear about outcomes and objectives, experiential and service learning, taxonomies of learning and communities of practice. But what do these ideas mean for our classrooms? How do we begin to engage with them in the short term? For many graduate student TAs and CIs, our ability to implement such pedagogical concepts and research is limited by our teaching context, but we can still find small ways to try out big ideas. This workshop will provide an overview of key ideas in teaching and learning, with a focus on concrete strategies for their use in the classroom. As a participant, you will select specific concepts or trends that are best suited to your individual interests, teaching context, and disciplinary frameworks, and will work to design and troubleshoot approaches to putting things into practice in your classroom.
