While many courses may use written assessments and activities as part of their curriculum, writing development and skill building is seldom emphasized. Students are often graded on their ability to communicate and apply course concepts through written assignments and activities. However, writing development and skill building are not often part of the curriculum. As a result, students may struggle to express their understanding of key concepts through writing, in turn making it challenging for TAs to assess students’ work and their grasp of the course materials. This cross-disciplinary workshop aims to help provide resources for TAs, and troubleshoot common issues with student writing, splitting its focus between three main avenues for supporting student writing: content delivered during tutorials, summative feedback, and access to additional writing resources.
